Philly!!

My tour of downtown Philly began with a eye opening trip to Reading Market. Not a place to frequent at ANY time of the day. After alighting the train I headed quickly to Independence Hall to obtain a ticket to go on a tour. As I could not do this for over an hour I went to see the Liberty Bell and other sites of interest first.

The Liberty Bell is now housed in a museum to allow greater access to the public. It was cast in England then recast in Philadelphia in 1753 by Jon Pass and John Stow from the original metal from the English bell. A crack formed which can still be seen today, though the cause of the crack is unknown.

Independence hall is the larges of the historical buildings on the concourse. It is famous for being the building in which the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4th 1776. Philadelphia is the unsung hero in America's history and many important historical acts were performed within the bounds of this city.

This is the desk where the Declaration of Independence was signed.
This was the first senate house in the United States of America and following the removal of the house of representatives to Washington DC, this building was then used as the United States Supreme Court chamber between 1791 and 1800.

One of the least historical facts, but most famous, that Philly is known for is the story of Rocky. There is a statue erected next to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and I ran the WHOLE way up the steps. Man alive I was exhausted when I got to the top! It was SO worth it though!

I had a fabulous day in Philly and hope to someday return to see some more of the hidden history in this magnificent city!
